User with two Personal Archive mailboxes

$

Hello All,

A user's archive was disabled with EMC and then discovered not all archived items were not moved to the new archive system.  In attempt to recover these items, the archive was re-enabled with EMC, which created a new archive mailbox.  Using Google, I found a way to remove the newly created archive mailbox and connected the existing one using the following, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633490.aspx.   Unfortunately,  it created a new archive mailbox, so now the user still has two.  Does anyone know how to remove the empty archive and reconnect an old archive mailbox?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW,  this environment is 2010 in a DAG.

Sincerely,

Raymond

Meeting Forward Notification issue: server sends multiple MFNs to organizer

$

Hi,

Exchange 2013 CU7 on Server 2012 R2.

We have separated the roles into mailbox server and front end.  Mailbox servers are installed on physical servers, front end is virtualized.

We still have Exchange 2007 SP3 Rollup 10 in the environment but not hosting any user mailboxes.

The issue is when someone forwards a meeting invite, the MFN is delivered many times to the organizer. In some cases 100s of times.  I have increased logging levels on all of the  MSExchangeMailboxAssistants\ sub-categories on the mailbox server reported in the headers but see nothing useful in helping to troubleshoot.

Any tips on where to go from here are greatly appreciated.

The Security Log on my Exchange 2013 server is loaded up with Event ID 4625 Audit Failures. I get the following every couple seconds:

An account failed to log on.

Subject:

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.

- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.

- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

The account name is sometimes listed as "HealthMailbox" followed by a long string of characters @domain.com.  Other times there won't be anything listed for the Account name.  I can't figure out what is causing this?

My primary partition is running low on space due to the W3SVC1 and W3SVC2 folders under inetpud --> Logs --> LogFiles. Both of the folders are around 25GB in size. Can I safely remove some of these files or is there a better method to cleaning some of the log files up?

Thanks

Launching Exchange Mass Export via the Scheduler

Hello,

I have installed this very useful script (MassExport.ps1) on an Exchange server.
Related links : MassExport on www.stevieg.org  &   MassExport on Technet

Launched from a Command Prompt (using administrator account), the bat script it works fine.
I also executed the command "New-ManagementRoleAssignment –Role "Mailbox Import Export"–User <Your Admin User>"

However, I cannot run it from the Scheduler; the script always stop after a few seconds...

I tried many configurations :
- Launch it using Administrator account (even not connected) or System account
- Use of "
Run with highest privileges"
- Launch a bat script, or only Powershell with full command in Argument
- With or without "Start in" parameter

And nothing works...

Could you please help me to have this script scheduled ?

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2013 - Quota notifications problem

$

Hello,

First of all I want to express mild disappointment with the way quota notification alerts are documented on Technet for Exchange 2013. The only reference I could find is that QuotaNotificationSchedule parameter of the Set-MailboxDatabase cmdlet no longer does anything: "This parameter has been deprecated in Exchange 2013 and it no longer does anything.".

The only other reference I could find is this forum post:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/f30bb2ca-91ab-4e69-a8b6-720e6a8a5b83/exchange-2013-quota-notification-message-not-sent-during-schedule?forum=exchangesvrgeneral

where it says: "Quota messages are generated once the user log in to mailbox in exchange 2013."

However, Microsoft Press published a book in 2013 "Inside Out: Microsoft Exchange Server 2013: Mailbox and High Availability" where QuotaNotificationSchedule parameter is being referenced as a working parameter which controls when Quota notification are being sent.

My experience says that the forum post is correct.

Now onto the problem.

While our customer was still on Exchange 2010 they were the victims of this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2480474/en-us which could easily be fixed with CheckWarningQuota registry key.

Now we have migrated those mailboxes to Exchange 2013 and again, users are not receiving quota notification e-mails. Only a few users receive quota notifications e-mails and those are users that got their mailbox created on the new Exchange 2013 system. Migrated users do not receive notifications. We have tried CheckWarningQuota on Exchange 2013 but it does nothing. Our theory is that mailbox flag introduced in Exchange 2010 SP1 is migrated with the mailboxes to Exchange 2013 and is the reason why we are not receiving quota notifications again.

I appreciate thoughts and comments.

Dinko

Enabling In-Place Archive for multiple users kills Exchange server performance

$

Hi,

Overall we are and have been migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 for some time now.

An issue we get in Exchange 2013 is that when we enable In-Place archiving (with the default MRM pol) for multiple users (lets say 15 this last time) the Exchange MB server starts to die for a number of reasons:

1) Noderunner.exe & parserserver.exe both consume a lot of CPU over the following day(s) after enabling

2) The log file for the Archive Mailbox DB grows massively over the same period, it does shrink once the backup is completed (nightly).

The main issue I have with this is the lack of control of when this runs - if for example I could stop this happening during daytime hours then it could churn away to its hearts content over night (aslong as we have sufficient log drive space available)

I suspect its not just the actual moving of the mails from the primary DB to the Archive DB - but also the search indexing (or similar) which must be running on the new content on the Archive DB.

The timing issue of knowing when this runs or being able to control it affects the log drive issue because we run nightly backups at 20:00 - if we knew for example that archiving would only run up to 20:00 I could then trigger the backup to run after that - but seemingly it is random when it kicks off - so last nights backup completed fine and was a few GB - when I came in this morning the Archive DB log is 120 GB and getting close to being out of space on the disk so I had to grow the disk and kick off a new backup.

Question:

Can you schedule when the archiving run kicks in, and tell it to stop at a certain time?

thanks

Chris

Executable or batch script for end users to export mailbox to PST

We are in the process of taking over a small firm and proceeding with manual migration of mailboxes from this firm , currently we do not have full access to their environment and having a hard time depending on admins of their organization dealing over to exporting mailboxes and then importing them back to our exchange environment,  my idea is to rather provide a executable or batch script to user's of their organization get their mailboxes exported out directly from end users  so that we do not have to depend on remote organization's admins for every single user out there . is there a batch script or some executable code that end users can run to have their mailbox exported out directly ?

Get ReasonForCall attribute of Unified Messaging calls via Powershell

$

I've been tasked with generating daily a specific report about our UM calls that is similar to our previous voicemail system.  Specifically it needs to differentiate between calls that were Busy versus No Answer.

Get-UMCallDataRecord seems to be the obvious choice but doesn't seem to have the information required to differentiate between busy and No Answer.

I see that in the Exchange admin center,  UM call statistics, you can export all calls for a given day to file, and this contains the data I'm looking for (ReasonForCall column).  However, the Command Logging feature of the admin center doesn't log that particular action.

The Export-UMCallDataRecord cmdlet looks to be what the admin center is running, but even in that technet link it says

"The Export-UMCallDataRecord cmdlet is available when you're using the Exchange Administration Center. You can't use the cmdlet from the Exchange Management Shell."   (Then why do they show syntax and examples??)

I've tried running Export-UMCallDataRecord myself in the Exchange Management Shell but haven't been able to fulfill the required ClientStream argument.  Keep getting errors like

Cannot process argument transformation on parameter 'ClientStream'. Cannot convert the "System.IO.Stream" value of type "Deserialized.System.IO.Stream" to type "System.IO.Stream".

Any ideas here?  How to get Export-UMCallDataRecord working from the Shell, or somehow get the Daily Call export from the admin center to run daily+automatically, or to get the Busy/No Answer information from Get-UMCallDataRecord?

Appreciate any help.  Thanks,

Jesse

hi guys...

i have a problem with retention policies. i've already read zounds of forums and information and still with no luck to explaining why it's happening.

what i try to achieve is to automatically delete messages older then 1o days on a mailbox. this is used for some alerting and notification. what was done:

- a retention tag has been created 'autoDelete'. tag type: inbox, age limit: 1o days, action: permanently delete

- retention policy created linking 'autoDelete' tag with the mailbox

- checked mailbox with powershell:

UseDatabaseRetentionDefaults  : True
RetainDeletedItemsUntilBackup : False
RetentionHoldEnabled          : False
EndDateForRetentionHold       :
StartDateForRetentionHold     :
RetentionComment              :
RetentionUrl                  :
RetentionPolicy               : Auto Delete Postmaster
RetainDeletedItemsFor         : 14.00:00:00

- force SFM with Start-ManagedFolderAssistant for the inbox

..nothing. no message is deleted, i don't see any message tagged, and choosing properties of the inbox folder in outlook do not show any RT policy assigned.

what am i missing?

any help appreciated.

I'm running Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2, and I'm getting this error event every time I start the server: ID 1032, source MSExchangeDiagnostics, text"The EDS Job manager failed to start the following jobs: Job: 'TransportSyncHealthHubLog' is poisoned."  I have not noticed any problems with the Exchange Server's operation, but the text of this event sounds ominous.  I haven't been able to find anything helpful about it online, so I figured I'd throw it up here and see if anyone has any insight into it.  Thanks in advance if you do.

Autodiscover for Linked Mailboxes

$

Hello,

we currently try to setup linked mailboxes to be used with outlook. But neither autodiscover nor manual setup seem to work.
OWA however works fine. The Users are in a domain without any Exchange Server, all Servers are in our old Domain.

The DNS is set to point to the CAS server, so the Server is found. But when I try to access the xml file I get an 401 error.
From the Remote Connectivity Tester:

An HTTP 401 Unauthorized response was received from the remote Unknown server. This is usually the result of an incorrect username or password. If you are attempting to log onto an Office 365 service, ensure you are using your full User Principal Name (UPN).
HTTP Response Headers:
request-id: 8f584323-24f4-4361-92c5-dc0a925f31a3
Server: Microsoft-IIS/8.0
WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate,NTLM,Basic realm="autodiscover.***.de"
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
X-FEServer: MAIL-SERVER
Date: Thu, 26 Mar 2015 12:04:59 GMT
Content-Length: 0
Elapsed Time: 3308 ms.

Not sure how to solve this. Does the User-Domain need the be prepared and then the config exported with Export-AutodiscoverConfig? Shouldn't be the proper DNS entry enough?

Redirection loop detected while opening Exchange 2007 mailboxes through Exchange 2013 OWA page

Team, in our infra Exchange 2013 CU8 & Exchange 2007 SP3 RU15 running. Exchange 2013 recently deployed but while opening exchange 2007 users mailbox through 2013 OWA getting error "Redirection loop detected". Want to update you few things :

Public DNS record created as mail.myinfra.in with x.x.x.2 IP and legacy.myinfra.in with x.x.x.3 IP.

Virtual directory modified mail.myinfra.in for 2013 & legacy.myinfra.in for 2007.

All the OWA request need to pass through public DNS only no internal DNS record for OWA.

Through ISA already rule created and tested also like https://mail.myinfra.in/owa giving me 2013 OWA page & https://legacy.myinfra.in/owa giving 2007 owa page. Only problem while opening https://mail.myinfra.in/owa with 2013 mailbox id/pwd working fine but with 2007 mailbox id/pwd giving error "Redirection loop detected".

Appreciate if you can help quickly.

Creating Mailboxes in Bulk

$

Hello All,

I'm having a bit of a conundrum. Our higher level engineers moved us to Exchange 2013 and left a bunch of us in the cold administering them; particularly when creating new mailboxes in bulk after we cut the AD accounts. We usually create the new AD accounts to in a single OU and in Exchange 2010 would create a new mailbox in the EMC by changing the scope for the new mailbox and then select them all. How do you do this in Exchange 2013 in Powershell (since the ECP isn't capable of doing this)
