Exchange 2013 multiple certificates assigned to SMTP

$

I have a GoDaddy SAN cert for my Exchange 2013 servers with a number of Subject Alternative Names. I installed this cert and assigned it to use it for IMAP, POP, SMTP, and IIS. It is the certificate assigned in bindings to the Default Web Site.

All my Exchange 2013 servers are multi-role with the Mailbox and FrontEnd functions covered on the each server.

My issue is that I have two additional certificates, "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" assigned to SMTP,  and "Microsoft Exchange" assigned to SMTP and IIS. When I attempt to edit the services assigned to either of these latter two certs, I find the SMTP option checked but grayed out so that I cannot uncheck it.

I'm see issues where some SMTP requests are picking up these self-signed certs and breaking some scanners, printers, and send-as options for Gmail users.

Is this the way this is supposed to work? It seems amiss but i'm not sure how best to resolve. Any help greatly appreciated.

What is the search syntax when trying to filter recipients in Exchange Admin Center?

I'm hoping it's just an oversight on my part but, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to perform an advanced search. Interesting enough, when you start typing it provides tokens but there doesn't appear to be any wildcard options. As an example we have a multi-tenant environment, and I want to search for all those whose email address contains "contoso" -- Zero results.

I think okay, perhaps I should use the ellipsis to jump into the Advanced search dialog. Same results -- zero. Oh wow, there's that handy Help link in the top-right corner. That will set me on the correct path. *Click* oh wow, it takes me to a TechNet Library page titled "Recipients > Advanced Filter" but alas it is still waiting to be populated with content.

I've been hunting around but to no avail. It seems there clearly a push to use PS for any administrative tasks. As much as I'm on board with this, there is definitelybeauty is having a web-based console at my fingertips.

Perhaps we are expected to the same recipient filter syntax? -eq -ne -like

Change emailadresses of all users in an organization

Hi,

I need to change a lot of emailaddresses in an Exchange 2013 environment. The company now uses firstname.lastname@domain.com. This has to be changed in firstletter.lastname@domain.com. So for example;

dave.johnson@company.com becomes d.johnson@company.com.

The old emailaddress has to be an alias.

Is there an easy way to do this? There are about 350 users.

Hi,

I'm encountering this error in my in-house apps. I've confirmed that my EXC server is running normally. I also updated the ETC\HOSTS file as per recommended solutions in some other threads.

I've confirmed that there is no minimum message size per message sent.

But still happening. I'm using EXC 2013 Version 15.0 ‎(Build 1293.2)‎

Do anyone else experience this?

Thanks.

Search-mailbox specifying between certain times

I am trying to setup a Search-Mailbox command to look between certain times:

 Search-Mailbox $Check_user -SearchQuery "(subject:`"$MessageSubject`")AND(from:`"$SenderEmail`")AND(Received:`"$Start_date..$End_date`")"

$Start_date = "03/27/2019 09:40:00"

$End_date  = "03/27/2019 09:50:00"

The date part works fine, but it seems to be ignoring the time part. If the message was delivered at 09:16 giving the above times it will find the message, same as if I put 09:10 and 09:20.

Looking at the documentation using the YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ format (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/general-development/keyword-query-language-kql-syntax-reference) it still seems to ignore the time wither specified in Central time zone or UTC time zone.

Email Address Policy - not auto applying

Hello

I have been testing a few things with Email Address Policies and I have reached the point when I am either not understanding what I am reading or missing something.

I have created 3 new test policies that are applying to 3 OU within our AD. If I create a user in one of those OU and then create them a mailbox the policy applies. If I then move the user from one of the OU to another test OU, leave it for about a day the email address has not been updated/changed.

If I then go to the user account on ECP and simply untick, save open and re-tick the box next to "Automatically update email address based on the email address policy applied to this recipient" then the new email address is added or one of the existing aliases is made a reply to email address.

I have read a lot that Exchange ignores Email Policies once one of them is applied, but is this for new mailboxes or all mailboxes that are on our exchange server?

If it is the latter is there a way for me to automate it, let say with a PowerShell script that would once a day do that "unticking" exercise for me?

Hope I am making sense and I have not missed something very obvious here.

Any questions please let me know and if anything is unclear please let me know.

Regards,

Kirior

How to delete Monitoring mailboxes in Exchange 2013?

$

I had number of databases decommissioned during our migration from 2010 to 2013

Now we have only 2 servers and 2 databases in DAG.

Correct me if I am wrong but I expect to have 2 health monitoring mailboxes per database.

Currently I have 8 MBs with all different GUIDs, 5 in one DB and 3 in the other, WhenChanged data is very old one.

Is there any way to delete and then re-create mailboxes for health monitoring to be sure I have only necessary ones and that they are working?

I mean not objects in AD but mailboxes themselves, I know I can delete user objects with ADUC and then restart MS Exchange Health Manager to recreate them.

When I try to access monitoring mailboxes it cannot find it via remove-mailbox command.

Office 365 - Room Booking permissions

$

Hi - sorry if this is really dumb. I've been tasked with making some changes to room booking on Office 365 - at the moment, when anyone tries to book a room, it emails everyone in their department for approval.

I'd like to do the following:

Allow specific people to be able to book the specific rooms.

Not allow others to book these rooms.

I'm concerned that if I set booking delegates to `accept or decline automatically' it will allow all staff to book these rooms? How can I lock the rooms down, but allow the correct staff to be able to book the rooms without needing approval?

thanks!

Sorry this is booked under `Exchange 2013' I couldn't see a separate Office 365 section.

Exchange IMAP4 Logs

We are having some space issues on the C drive of one of our Exchange servers.  One of the biggest folders is log files in the following location:  C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\Imap4.  Is it ok to manually delete these types of files or will it break Exchange?

Owa works perfectly, but when Im going to the /ECP I see only text and 500's. Its a DAG / Cluster, with two CA´s.Same error on both of them (Surfing to the local IP of CA1 and CA2), (DNS round robin).
In the eventviewer I see some MSExchange OAuth errors, (Event ID). and some ASP.NET errors, (Event ID 1309),
Anyone seen this error before and can guide me in the right direction

Mailbox Restore from HyperV Backup in DPM 2016

$

Using DPM 2016 with Exchange 2013 on prem, single CAS server, single Mailbox server, no DAG,

Is it possible in DPM 2016 to restore a mailbox from a hyper-V backup of the virtual mailbox server?

I have independent DPM backups of the mailbox databases, but want to can those and just backup the entire mailbox vm.  But when in the Recovery console, I can only restore system files/full vm but not see mailbox databases or individual mailboxes.

Am I missing something, or is this not possible with my current setup?

Thanks.

[Exchange 2013] Exchange EDB file growing while whitespace exists

$

Our environment is Exchange 2013 CU 19 running on Windows 2012r2 Server.

2 Exchange Databases on 2 different disks. EDB1 is 400GB on a 500GB disk, EDB2 is 274gb on 300GB disk ( this is the main concern as it is continuing to grow )

Our exchange server disks were beginning to fill up so we took action to archive and delete mail from the server.

After these tasks were completed and multiple full backups passed the whitespace increased.

I verified this by dismounting the databases and running the Eseutil /MS <pathtoedbfile\edbfile> command in Exchange Management Shell.

As i had read that it is measured in Page Files you must multiply by 32 to get correct amounts.

This showed that there was 40GB of whitespace EDB1 and 23GB of whitespace on EDB2

Checked back 2 weeks later and the EDB files have grown on EDB2 by 5GB , i re-ran the eseutil /ms on EDB2 whitespace is now at 17GB. So it has not consumed all free whitespace on the edb file but the EDB file is growing.

I am very concerned about remaining disk space on this volume.

Does anyone know why the Exchange Database is not correctly using disk space or is this operating as it should?

Server has no remaining disk slots so plans for online defragmentation and offline defragmentation would take far too long with size of databases.
