We have an Exchange server that has 3 Mailboxes, 2 are good by the primary one is off-line. Error is below:

Failed to mount database "DB2016". Error: An Active Manager operation failed. Error: The database action failed. Error Logs: database copy 'DB2016' on this server appears to have a serious I/O error. To help identify the specific failure, consult the Event log on the server for other storage and "ExchangeStoreDb" events. Service recovery was attempted by failover to another copy. Failover was unsuccessful in restoring the service. Error: There is only one copy of this mailbox database (DB2016). Automatic recovery is not available.

Is the DB corrupt?

I am doing Exchange migration from 2013 to Exchange 2016, but when I click Migration from the EAC I get the following error "A version mismatch was detected (Actual:6, Expected:5)." I have migrated the migration mailbox to Exchange 2016 and checked with get-mailboxMigration* -Arbitration, I can that it was migrated to Exchange 2016 server. So far I have 3 CAS and 5 MBX on Exchange 2013 and 5 MBX+CAS on Exchange 2016, what else can be done apart from moving the migration mailbox to Exchange 2016

SSL Error in EAC

Hi

We have 2 Exchange 2013 Servers with CU19 on Windows 2012 R2. In EAC>Servers>Certificate i receive the following error

a special Rpc error occurs on server. Unknown error -1073741275

get-exchange certificate returns error: verify that ms service host is started. I can confirm the service is running and i have restarted this along with IIS.

I can see event id 7031 service control manager in the event logs.

Any ideas how to resolve this one?

Thanks

Mount Exchange 2010 DB to Exchange 2013

Is it possible to mount Exchange 2010 DB to Exchange 2013? Actually I have Exchange 2010 but that vm is continuously showing errors and working very slow. So I created a fresh VM and installed exchange 2013 on it. Now I want to simply dismount DB from exchange 2010 and copy DB and Logs from that old server to new Exchange server 2013 . Then I simply execute mount command. Can it be done?

What is the search syntax when trying to filter recipients in Exchange Admin Center?

I'm hoping it's just an oversight on my part but, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to perform an advanced search. Interesting enough, when you start typing it provides tokens but there doesn't appear to be any wildcard options. As an example we have a multi-tenant environment, and I want to search for all those whose email address contains "contoso" -- Zero results.

I think okay, perhaps I should use the ellipsis to jump into the Advanced search dialog. Same results -- zero. Oh wow, there's that handy Help link in the top-right corner. That will set me on the correct path. *Click* oh wow, it takes me to a TechNet Library page titled "Recipients > Advanced Filter" but alas it is still waiting to be populated with content.

I've been hunting around but to no avail. It seems there clearly a push to use PS for any administrative tasks. As much as I'm on board with this, there is definitelybeauty is having a web-based console at my fingertips.

Perhaps we are expected to the same recipient filter syntax? -eq -ne -like

BULK SMTP RELAY ON PREMISE SETUP FOR CLOUD 0365 EMAIL

Hi,

We have Hybrid setup and we are sending almost 50,000 emails per day from our 15 application servers to our clients. The from address is static but TO: Address is dynamic for the client.

We want to remove our on premise Exchange servers and move everything to cloud. But what i understand the o365 receives smtp relay email 30 per minutes and 10,000 max.

Need a solution if we can decommission our exchange server and setup a windows 2012 R2 based relay service. Not sure what next, do i need to contact Bulk Mail service provider or something extra setup required.

Need an expert advise in my case for smtp solution to send email or if any third party software on premise installation can fix this. we want to send to our customer so no routing of email to o365 is must.

Thanks,

Farooque

We are using Exchange 2013 edge deployed in DMZ, so autodiscover message from Public is reaching Exchange edge, it is then refusing the connection on port 80 & 443. Does Exchange edge support Autodiscover ?

Is it possible to create my own "Certification Authority-Signed Certificate" for Exchange 2013?

Hello,

I have a coworker who is knowledgeable in Exchange 2013, and although I myself am not knowledgeable in Exchange 2013, something he's telling me doesn't seem right, so I'm posting here as a sanity check.

We have a single Exchange 2013 server, and it doesn't have any secure connections of any sort to any other exchange servers or domains in the outside world - connections to client Outlook 2013 instances is done only on the local domain/network.  In the Exchange Administration Center's "Certificates" section, we have a Certification Authority-Signed Certificate that is expiring on August 13 this year:

You can't see it in the screenshot, but the certificate is assigned to the IMAP, POP, IIS, and SMTP services.

I also can see errors in the Event Logs, for this particular certificate:

My coworker says, in order for this certificate to be renewed, we have to go through a process described in the below link; basically we have to send a file to a third party and have it approved:

https://practical365.com/exchange-server/renewing-an-ssl-certificate-for-exchange-server-2013/

However, what doesn't make sense to me, is in my first above screenshot of the Exchange Admin Center, on the right hand side of it, the "Issuer" field which I've blanked out, that value is the name of our domain controller.  So, that field looks like:

CN=DomainControllerName-CA

So, to me, I would think an Issuer would be the entity that actually created ("issued") and signed/approved the certificate.  Meaning that our Domain controller issued the certificate in this case, which means that we can generate the certificate and have it ready for use ourselves.

But, I could be wrong on that.  Perhaps "Issuer" doesn't mean what I think it does.

So, my question is - is it possible for us to totally renew this certificate ourselves without involving a third party, or do we indeed have to go through the process outlined in that "practical365.com" link I put earlier?  If it's possible to renew this certificate from start-to-finish ourselves, can someone link me to a step-by-step guide I can show my coworker?

Thanks for your time.

System mailbox Delete

I am migrating to 2016 from 2013. During this process I mistakenly added a 2012 server with exchange 2016. To get the job done, I just created 2 new 2016 servers and moved on. Now I am cleaning up my 2013 environment, and I find I can't remove/delete the 2012 server, because it has a mailbox on it, and it is listed as a SYSTEM{1234}.

Normally I understand the answer to deleting the SYTEM mailbox's is HELL NO!

But, all the arbitration mailboxes have been moved, and the command

Get-Mailbox -Arbitration | fl name,servername,Database,PersistedCapabilities

this mailbox is NOT listed.  I tried moving it anyway to be safe, but it will not move.  I did dismount the DB with no ill effects, and this is the last mailbox to be handled

So,

1) is this safe to delete?

2) and if not, then how do I remove this server from the farm/cluster

should i look into the mapi logs too (as we use outlook 2016) and is there a way just to get the number of users?

IMAP SSL In exchange 2013 with Nat address

Hello Guys,

Please help me out, i am really stuck with IMAP SSL configuration.

I have external interface which is nat ing all the traffic which comes on port 993 to the internal Exchange server and i have already done this configuration on the exchange server.

Start-ServiceMSExchangeIMAP4; Start-ServiceMSExchangeIMAP4BE

INFO: I use the wild card certificate for all other email services and it just works fine except when i try to assign the IMAP Services to the Wildcard certificate and i get this error mentioned below

This certificate with thumbprint and subject ‘*.domain.com’ cannot used for IMAP SSL/TLS connections because the subject is not a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN). Use command Set-IMAPSettings to set X509CertificateName to the FQDN of the service.

and when run the Set-ImapSettings command , I gets this error messages below.

Set-ImapSettings -ExternalConnectionSettings “mail.domain.com:993:SSL”,”mail.domain.com::143:TLS" -X509CertificateName Mail_Wildcard_Cert

The certificate with the subject ‘mail_Wildcard_cert’ can't be used for SSL or TLS connections because the subject

isn't a valid fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

Please help me find my mistake,

thank you for all the help…

Delete Greater Than 10,000 Messages

$

I want to delete all messages sent from certain internal systems older than 30 days for all in the organization - about 300 mailboxes. This will total hundreds of thousands, if not millions of messages. What is the best way to facilitate this? I've played with the Search-Mailbox command with the -DeleteContent switch but it only allows up to 10,000 objects (messages) at a time.  It then indicates to use the New-MailboxSearch command but I don't see a clear-cut way to just delete the messages.  I don't want to keep them, I don't want to move them somewhere first - I just want to remove them once and for all.  Suggestions?  Thanks!  This is for Exchange 2013 CU3.

I have a list of users I need to know what mailboxes they have access to

Hi, I have a list of users that I need to know what mailboxes they each have access to. Is there a script or command that will take each person from the CSV list and get the mailboxes they have access to then pipe the results to another file?

Missing about 200gb of hard drive space on my Exchange server's C: drive

$

We are using Exchange 2013.  My C: drive is a Raid 1 array with two 300gb hard drives.  About 200gb of that space seems to have disappeared into thin air.  Windows all but about 8gb of the drive in use, but a full count of all files and folders only come up to about 60gb.

I found some guidance suggesting it is shadow copies, however vssadmin reports that there are no shadow copies using disk space on the system.

This is causing me issues with occasional failure of email to deliver due to backpressure with low disk space.

WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that the computer is accessible over the network

The Exchange Management Shell fails to connect in Exchange 2013 environment, this is a DAG environment and previously it indicates another error message, which is in my another thread. We fixed that error by delete the retired proxy entry in the server registry, after that the error is gone but changed to below one, anyway the EMS still fails to connect to all servers:

VERBOSE: Connecting to NSWVIP999WTMBX.air.abc.au.
New-PSSession : [NSWVIP999WTMBX.air.abc.au] Connecting to remote server NSWVIP999WTMBX.air.abc.au failed with the
following error message : WinRM cannot complete the operation. Verify that the specified computer name is valid, that
the computer is accessible over the network, and that a firewall exception for the WinRM service is enabled and allows
access from this computer. By default, the WinRM firewall exception for public profiles limits access to remote
computers within the same local subnet. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.

Enter the server FQDN where you want to connect.:

Then it just show can't connect to all the exchange servers, from the wording it seems pointing to the Windows firewall settings for winRM, but when I look at the windows firewall found it's turned off. We use Sophos enterprise for the security, but all other 3 exchange servers didn't have the same issue.

msExchHomeServerName pointing to the old server and other server that doesn't make any sense ?

Hi People,

I'm in the middle of migrating some of my mailboxes to Office365 When I execute the below Script:

Get-ADUser –filter * -Properties msExchHomeServerName | Where-Object {$_.msExchHomeServerName –ne $null} | Sort-Object -Property UserPrincipalName | Select-object Userprincipalname, msExchHomeServerName

I can see that there are several thousands of mailboxes returning the old server and some other servers that don't make any sense at all?

What can I do to resolve this issue properly?

Thanks in advance.

MailboxExportRequest Fails / UnableToReadPSTFolderPermanentException

I am attempting to create a PST file for a very large mailbox (about 90GB).

Created it using:

New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox mailboxname -FilePath \\server\d$\Backup\mailbox.pst -BadItemLimit 200 -AcceptLargeDataLoss

It starts running, has created a file that's about 70GB, and then fails.

Getting the RequestStatistics report, I see:

FailureCode                            : -2146233088
FailureType                            : UnableToReadPSTFolderPermanentException
FailureSide                            : Target
Message                                : Error: Unable to read folder ID '33154'. Check the PST file for possible
corruption. --> Heap id type does not match

The end of the log file looks like this:

4/6/2018 12:13:04 PM [SERVER] Fatal error
                                         UnableToReadPSTFolderPermanentException has occurred.

I've tried it over a few times and same error.  What would be next steps here?
